Driveways laid on a base that lasts
Block paving, resin-bound, porcelain and natural stone — excavated, sub-based and laid to fall, with the drainage the regulations actually require.
A driveway fails from the bottom up. Most of the sunken, weed-ridden drives we replace were laid on too little sub-base over unprepared ground. We excavate to a proper depth, compact a Type 1 sub-base in layers, and lay to a fall that takes water away from the house. Front gardens also need permeable surfacing or drainage to a soakaway under planning rules — which we build in rather than ignore.

What it costs
Block paving typically runs £90 to £140 per square metre laid, resin-bound £80 to £120, porcelain more. Ground conditions and how much spoil has to be carted away move the number most.

Do I need planning permission for a driveway?
Not if the surface is permeable, or if water drains to a soakaway or lawn within the property. Laying an impermeable surface over five square metres that drains to the road does require permission.
How long does a driveway take?
A typical front driveway is three to six days depending on size, how much excavation is involved and the surface chosen. Resin needs dry conditions to lay.
Can you do a dropped kerb?
The crossover itself is carried out under licence from the council and the application takes a few weeks. We can prepare and submit it, then build the driveway to meet it.
Block paving or resin?
Block is easier to repair and lift for access to services; resin gives a seamless finish with no weeds between joints. Both last well if the sub-base is right — that matters more than the surface.
